Improved Revenue Cycle through Independent Document Management

As MEDITECH customers look to maximize their investment, consultants advise that an independent approach to Document Management improves revenue cycles, access to critical information, and the patient experience.  What constitutes an “independent approach”?

  • Does the solution provide for access throughout the cycle of the patient’s experience?  Does it collect all data at registration and allow for easy addition of clinical and back office data/reports as required?
  • Check for interoperability with your MEDITECH installation and external sources of data.  A value-added independent solution will easily and transparently connect with all your disparate systems.
  • Through your due diligence, check to ensure that the system of choice is intuitive, easy to implement with minimal ongoing training, and provides a secure web enabled viewer to make report retrieval fast and secure. Your information should always just be a click away.
  • Studies show that the best ways to improve your revenue cycles are through the accurate access to data, the ability to populate the data into correct forms, and to automate the payor communication.  Check to make sure that your document management system is not simply focused on the clinical side.  Does it provide easy to use functions such as scan/archive, customizable forms, and support all known healthcare communication protocols?
  • Do you have a requirement to migrate information from legacy systems?  If so, check for a proven migration strategy that can be done quickly, safely, and cost effectively.

In summary, there are many benefits of an independent system including transparent access to all data and bottom line improvement of your revenue cycle.

What is Workflow Automation?

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

By Charlie Wilson

The dictionary describes automation as the technique, method, or system of operating or controlling a process by highly automatic means, as by electronic devices, reducing human intervention to a minimum. If you ask people to describe what automation is, you will get many varied responses.

Henry Ford’s version of automation was revolutionary in history.  By driving the manufacturing process via the assembly line, productivity was skyrocketed, employee wages were much higher than average, and Ford became a leader in the industry.  Many advances in automation have been made since the early 1900’s.

Automation in its simplest form is all about efficiency.  By taking repetitive tasks and minimizing or eliminating those tasks, people will become more efficient increasing productivity.

At DB Technology, we specialize in Workflow Automation.  Managing a business process through a series of automated steps is Workflow Automation.  I am not speaking about Business Process re-engineering.  DB Technology will enable you to improve your existing business process by minimizing or eliminating a series of tasks that your people perform today.

Make your people more efficient.  Employ Workflow Automation and give DB Technology a visit.

John Wooden

John Wooden and UCLA basketball will always be associated with one another.  Under Coach Wooden, UCLA had the greatest success in the history of college basketball and possibly all of sports.  His teams won the NCAA championship 10 times in 12 years, 88 games in a row, and 4 undefeated seasons.  He is inducted into the College Hall of Fame both as a player and a coach.

For all of his success in the world of basketball, he has had more impact outside of basketball.  He taught life lessons to young men that translates well into lessons for all.  His lessons on being prepared are simple yet unparalleled in their effectiveness.  Start with the fundamentals, be true to yourself, and do the right thing are some of his credo’s.

Some of my favorite quotes from Coach Wooden:

  • Be quick, but don’t hurry
  • Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.

Below is the famed John Wooden Pyramid of Success.  It should be a model for all to follow.

Visiting Customers

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

By Charlie Wilson

The best part of my job is visiting our fantastic customers.  Customers are the ultimate report card and the feedback is always welcome and needed.  Listening to the creative ways that people are benefiting from RAS always warms my heart.  Document Management has evolved and people continue to amaze me with their ideas.

This week I spent my time on the West Coast speaking with customers, future customers, and software partners.  Having lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for 1/3 of my life, it was good to be back on the West Coast.  Thank you to all that provided feedback during the customer forum.

Listening to your customers is an important part of any good company.  How does your market offering benefit your customers?  Where are the shortfalls?  Where is the market direction?  Without an understanding of how your customers are using your solutions, without soliciting your customers’ opinion of future requirements, and without an understanding of the overall market, you cannot build a roadmap for your company.

Go speak with your customers.  They are great.

Welcome

charliewilson_398My family has expanded again. Eli Joseph Wilson was born last week. His proud parents Joe and Natalie and big sister Chelsea are thrilled to welcome him into their family. For my wife and me, Eli is our second grandchild.

Change is constantly occurring in our lives. Try to embrace change and enjoy the challenges and differences that life brings. It is often not very easy to adapt to new environments, expand your comfort zone, or learn new methods.

In the case of my son and daughter in law, change brings much joy and a little pain. From changing diapers to losing sleep, the birth of a baby is not easy but the happiness of a new baby greatly exceeds the inconveniences. Even little Chelsea has to learn to share the attention of her parents.

Welcome Eli. Your grandparents are ecstatic!

Preparation

The recent rainstorms that hit the Northeast United States have caused major flooding and power outages throughout the region.  The water and lack of power have caused major disruptions to some businesses.  When a natural disaster hits, is your business prepared?

Business continuity is a strategic necessity.  In a market where unpredictability becomes the norm, planning for a major disruption is another variable in running your business.

When I was living in California, all of the schools taught earthquake preparedness training, the telephone books had a section for what to do in an earthquake, television stations would air specials on being prepared for the ‘big one’.  In October, 1989, the Loma Prieta earthquake (the one delayed the World Series) caused major damage in the San Francisco Bay Area.  Bridges collapsed, buildings fell and severe damage was caused throughout the region.  While any loss of life is tragic, the region fared well and disruption was at a minimum because they were prepared.

California knows that there will be another earthquake.  Strong building codes, emergency response plans for state and local government, and individual plans are all part of the regions mindset.

A number of tips for being prepared:

  • Have a business continuity plan – review the plan.
  • Have support throughout your entire organization for that plan.  Train your team(s).
  • Have a disaster recovery plan for your data center.
  • Get rid of your paper.  I know a very good document management company that can assist in digitizing your documents.  Paper does not do well in a flood.
  • Human error (intentional or not) is much more likely to occur than a natural disaster.  Audit your procedures.

Enthusiasm

There are many factors that make up a winning company.  The product offerings, the market and market conditions, and the people are key factors for successful organizations, but the attitude and enthusiasm of the employees are the real difference makers.

DB Technology has a long history of success in helping our customers become more efficient in their work by using the automation technology of RAS.  RAS is a very strong solution for the Document Management and Imaging requirements of our customers.  There is a need for Document Management solutions and the market is expanding as more emphasis is placed on reducing paper and digitizing our daily lives.  Those are two of the key factors for a successful company.

The last barrier to success for any company is the people.  Software is not a technology business, it is a people business and the people make the difference.  DB Technology is very fortunate to have great employees who care for the success of our customers.  Placing a strong emphasis on making the customer implementations a success is a foundation of the company and we are very proud in making the customer experience a fruitful one.  The basic principle is that DB Technology wins only when the customer wins.  Helping others achieve their goals and success leads to happy customers.

Helping make your customers a success with your product and support should be the passion of every company.  Make a difference.
